宝岛世纪之旅:台北餐厅

a post dedicated to all the awesome restaurants that made our trip even more awesome!

went to 锅爸 for steamboat, recommended by kiahui. each person got his/her own pot and the ingredients are fresh and look really appetising too.

makes you wanna grab as much as you can.

however, some of the stuff we took turned out to be things we cannot identify. like this white thing that looks like a dumpling at first sight, then it started to look suspiciously like intestine but it’s too white to be intestine, then when you cook it, it’s crunchy and not rubbery like intestine should be.

the mystery never got solved and we just stopped eating that.

same goes for a like 2-3 other stuff LOL.

but the bill came up to around sgd20 per person which, for the spread you get, is really really worthwhile. highly recommended! (just make sure you know what you are cooking.)

celebrated edwin’s birthday there too.

N.Y. bagels, where i met my ex-roomies the morning of the countdown.

thank god for social media which helped us stay in touch and arrange this meetup. from the dorm days to working days, we have all grown up but things seem to not have changed when we got together.

anyway, brunch here was really good for its price too! not amazingly cheap but it’s like sgd12 or so for the eggs benedict which lasted me til late afternoon. i think N.Y. bagels is a chain, since i saw it at some other places too.

but of course, if you’re visiting TW for the first time, don’t waste your time on brunch. try the local dishes!

our last meal in TW was omelette rice. tracy and i have been craving for curry rice since day one simply because TW uses jap rice and jap curry and guess what? CHEAP PRICE.

but of course, 蛋蛋屋 (tamagoya) is a chain restaurant so it isn’t all that cheap here. quality is so-so, below expectations. you can get better curry rice elsewere, i say. but since i’ve been meaning to try this place, i’ve been there done that too.

EZ5, one of the highlights of this trip!

it’s a livehouse with drinks and finger food and you get live singing from singers – could be someone new who emerged from a singing competition, some freelance singer or an artiste who does the singing.

some pretty girl with power vocals from 星光大道 but i stopped watching after season 3 so i couldn’t recognise her.

赖铭伟, the one we have all been waiting for! he is really really good with the interaction and jokes and i mean he cracks a joke about every single thing! he only came on stage at around 11pm but his humour and singing kept us awake and entertained.

witnessed a proposal too! not the best proposal around, but of course you have 赖铭伟 to save the day!

requested a birthday song for edwin too, 黄梅调 version, no less:

we ended our last night in taipei on a super high note with 干杯, that BBQ restaurant where 《败犬女王》(yet another of my favourite shows!) was filmed. remember that place where you have to kiss to get a free plate of 猪五花 that is not for sale? that is the place!

after you get seated, the waitor will come and get a brief background of your group and find out if it’s anyone’s birthday. then at 8pm, an emcee (one of the waitors – they are all so hyperactive!) will come out and start hyping up the atmosphere.

photos won’t do justice to it so video here:

and a free plate of 猪五花 really goes to the table who gets a couple to kiss!

food wise, really impressive. in fact, it must be one of the best BBQs i’ve ever had! bill, however, came up to sgd30+ per person but for the quality of food, service and entertainment, i guess it was alright?

CHEERS TO 2012!
